Wednesday night kicked off the 2nd matchdae in the UKG challenge cup teams Washington Spirit and the Orlando Pride faced off.
Both teams needing to put 3pts on the board while also coming off good wins in the NWSL just a couple daes earlier.
It was Olrando Pride who took off first and looked the most threating which ended up giving them a early goal off a corner kick. Hansen backheel kick gave the pride the 10th minute goal after Washington attempt's to clear the ball failed. This was my first match viewing this Pride team and I was impressed with the early start.
Washington through playing at home were not going to be put down that easily, soon they grew into the game and it was around the 33 minute Lena Silano found herself her 1st NWSL goal with a perfect low driven shot across the goalkeeper Collins of Orlando pride. The goals start to come quickly as Washington was awarded a freekick and it was Staab the cb who step up. Staab 37 minute freekick goal was placed to far for the Orlando gk to reach and Washington was up 1 goal. Things heated up second later as Sheva 42 minute goal shook the crowd into a frenzy an assist for the 15 year old Chloe Ricketts had the Spirit pumped. Sheva goal was also the first of her NWSL career and it was a golazo in my opinion!
In just a span of 9 minutes Spirit had a 3-1 lead going into the locker-room. During this match both teams did not have their main starter's on the field and it was really enjoyable to see all the different players and get to know them as the match was being played.
Orlando knowing that they need to have the 1st goal out of halftime took that mission on and where successful it was Watt 49th minute goal that had me saying this is just perfect Pride had not given up making it 3-2.
Soon later through as the game continue Washington Spirit brought on the Ashley's, Ashley Hatch and Ashley Sanchez and it was Sanchez goal that was a screamer as well for range that put it to bed in the 90+4 minutes.
